September My Big Day Box

I got my September My Big Day Box in the mail today and had to get a review up! I was initially disappointed when I saw photos from other people but once I got home I was pleasantly surprised!  I really hope this subscription service gets it right moving from monthly to quarterly subscription service! I am hoping for high end brands that I cannot get from other subscriptions I get.

The new quarterly boxes are supposed to be customized to the person and have 10-12 full size products as well as a larger bag. It will be $99 but honestly I would expect $250+ in retail before I will consider paying that much. There is really not a lot of information out yet but I hope to be a MBD subscriber for a long time!

Want to become a subscriber? You can find them at https://www.facebook.com/MyBigDayBox and http://mybigdaybox.webs.com/. When you sign up tell them you were referred by Jodi Hodges!

So I went a little overboard this month with my subscription boxes but there were so many good intro deals! I thought this would mean a constant flow of boxes throughout the month but alas, it is Wednesday and no boxes since Saturday!

What boxes am I waiting on might you ask? Well.....

I already got my 2 Ipsy bags and my Out of the Box Sampler and 1 box from Little Black Bag (LBB).
I am waiting on...

  • Volupties
  • Goodies
  • Ambition Favorites Box

August Out of the Box Sampler

Out of the Box Sampler is one of my favorite boxes. Each month there are 17+ different handmade things from all over! They can be food, soap, candles, crafts and more! On top of this, the shipping is insanely fast! I ordered mine this month on Friday afternoon and it was on my door step when I got home from work today!

The box itself is 9" x 4" x 4" and even that was not enough for everything this month! The theme this month was "Flip Flop Summer" Beach Themed Box.

As you can see, there are lots of awesome things and each month is different! To not flood this post in photos, I groups the items into 3's which will give a better breakdown hopefully.

The box itself is tied with a really cute flip flop charm, I'm thinking of adding it to a chain for a fun summer necklace.

These goodies were the ones that could not fix in the box. It also came with a postcard explaining the theme and who this months sponsor was.  (www.slipperyslopesoaps.etsy.com & www.facebook.com/pages/slippery-slope-soaps/183105490598) and there was the monthly discount sheet listing all the discounts from the different sample suppliers in the box. Some of these can be amazing deals!

This was a 2 cup sample of Organic Costa Rican Tarrazu coffee and it smells great. I have not brewed it yet but I expect it to be a nice full flavor coffee.

This has me very excited. It is a Watermelon Lemonade drink mix and sounds so refreshing!

  • Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels - I love the idea of sweet and salty.
  • A Touch of Double J Pear - Looks to be pear flavored hard candy.
  • Ju-C Suckers tangerine Flip-Flop sucker.

  • Caribbean Teakwood tea lights that smell amazing. I get 3-8-1 candles in this scent and love it. The throw is amazing.
  • Orange Dreamsicle tart warmer shaped like a flip flop
  • Custom gift tags that are really cute, the only downside is the company name is on them in pretty big writing so I doubt I will use them for actual gifts.

  • Flip Flop bottle cap magnet. I really like this because I use a ton of magnets and this one is headed to work!
  • Lavender Cucumber Sage tart warmer and smells really nice
  • Lavender Dead Sea bath salts - it's a really nice size (16oz), I can use it for multiple baths.

  • Malibu Rum Cupcake scented tart. I don;t know if I will be able to put this one in the warmer because it smells like frosting and rum. (In a totally good way)
  • Button pin - I honestly have no idea what this is supposed to be a image of.
  • Rosehip Jasmine soap, its a nice trial size that I will probably pass on to my mother who loves handmade soap.

  • From this month's sponsor I got a 2oz sample of their Beach Bum Body Lotion and a nice smelling tea light.
  • Handmade necklace mad out of a bottle cap with a picture of a killer whale.

  • Herbal Attitudes Insect Repellent. It's all natural and they made sure to wrap it nicely in bubble wrap to protect it in shipping!
  • Really cute earrings. I like how simple they are.
  • These other earrings I am NOT a fan of. They look cheap and like something I made when I was 12. Needless to say these will not be worn.

This was probably my favorite item this month. It was a Mini Citrus Spa Kit that held 2 Lemongrass Sugar Scrub cubes and 2 heart shaped Orange Blossom Glycerin Soaps.

All in all, I paid $25 dollars and got a ton of new things to try! 20 different samples this month and many had multiples. If you love hand made goodies, bath and body items and candles you will love this subscription! I will be posting a link as soon as I can. Sign ups open at the beginning of each month and you must go buy each months boxes, it is not a reoccurring subscription.

August Ipsy bags 1 & 2

There as some subscriptions I LOVE and will always subscribe to because of their amazing value and there are others that I honestly feel are not worth the money. Ipsy is one of those I will always subscribe to because of the amazing value. I  get 2 subscriptions each month. Every month I use at least 80% of what comes in my bags and there are months where I am glad to get doubles of items I love!

This month my first bag was this:

  •  Urban Decay Revolution lipstick in "69"
OMG I LOVE this lipstick! I adore the color red but have found that only blue based reds work on my face and skin tone while yellow based reds just make me look cheap and trashy. This is a lovely deep red that stays on very well. The size may look small but I have always found that my lipstick gets old before I even come close to using it all so this is the perfect size to see how often I use it. I suspect I will end up buying a full size before too long!

  • MicaBeauty eye shadow in Bronze

MicaBeauty has really impressed me as a brand. I love the Earth eyeshadow we got a few bags back and like this new color even better. Bronze is highly pigmented and can be used as a light dusting on top of other colors or used as its own for an eyeliner or eye shadow.

  • Pixi Lash Booster mascara in Blackest Black
Not a huge fan of this. It seemed to take forever to get a good coating and then at that point it was clumping. After a day worth of wear it was flaking off so needless to say the second one will be traded and the first will be an emergency backup mascara.
  • Michael Todd Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask
I was expecting great things from everything I have heard about Michael Todd products but I will have to pass on this. The first thing I noticed after opening it was the smell, so if you are a fan of pumpkin then I am sure you will love it! I never actually used it but the scent was enough for me to pass on.
  • Nailtini Straight Up Color in Mai Tai
This is a fun color! I wish I had gotten it the first round instead of this time as it is a great color for summer. My job as a Systems Administrator is at a plant that is FDA regulated so I cannot wear nail polish to alas this too will be traded.

My second bag this month was almost completely different!

  • Noya lip balm in Vanilla
I know a lot of people were upset over this either/or and on some level I have to agree. This is not saying that the Noya is not a great product (it is) but to pair it against one of the most loved makeup companies is just wrong. That being said, I do like the lip balm, mainly because I tend to stick to neutrals and chapstick during the day and only bright lipstick at night.
  • City Color cheek stain
I am always terrified of cream blush because I fear I will look like a clown. However this month I decided to put on my big girl britches and try it. Surprisingly enough I am happy with the result. It goes on almost too easy but with a little blending it looks quite nice. This was probably the nicest surprise in my bags.

  • Pixi Lash Booster mascara in Blackest Black
You can read my review above, again, not impressed.
  • Pacifica Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream
This BB cream boasts "shade matching technology" as to the best of my knowledge it lives up to it. It went on really easy and a little goes a long way, it's not thick like some where you feel like you are piling on full foundation. This BB cream has a slight shimmer so my face looks bright and radiant.
  • Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal facial scrub
Again I was disappointed, although I blame it on my cats this time. The minute I peeled the cover off the scrub I smelled wet charcoal which automatically makes me think of the cat box I continually have to clean. I cannot bring myself to smother my face and especially right under my nose with something reminiscent of a litter box.

All in all I love this month and my bags. Out of 10 products, I'll be swapping out my 2 Michael Todd products, the Nailtini and one Pixi. The ONLY reason I am swapping the Nailtini is because of work, otherwise I'd be applying it right now.

As so it begins...

So I figured it was about damn time I got one of these.

For those that do not know me, I'm Jodi. I am 27, work in IT and am a single mom. I live in North Carolina and have been here since 2009. I have a son who is 7 and is an aspiring dancer who keeps me busy.... and broke.

Let's face it, in today's economy, everyone's dollar must stretch a lot further that before. As a one income family, I have had to deal with this for years. What extra I have tends to go to my son's dance, so when I DO spend money on myself, I must make sure I am getting the best deal possible.

I hope that my blog, filled with subscription box reviews, sales and way's to save money can help others.
